The promenade is designed as a continuous sequence of green areas, that are visually referring to surrounding hilly landscape. River Drava is conceptually considered as the main natural and visual connection between two important areas of natural heritage, Mariborski otok (Maribor’s island) and park Svila. Natural and visual connection is established by different types of plantings and new program components, that are referring to existing spatial qualities.
The design proposal is preserving the heterogeneity of existing urban and landscape character. The character is generally proceeding from natural to urban landscapes. The design concept proposes educational function and representation of natural heritage in the natural landscape near Maribor’s island. The semi-urban landscape is redesigned with regards to spatial and social needs of surrounding neighbourhoods. |
