The main competition task regarding open public space was to design flexible and functional space, that can host different events. In order to persist functional flexibility of the square, we suggested the concept of movable and modular urban furniture. The shape of furniture creates visual contrast to simple pavement pattern. The atrium is functionally connected to the new cultural program of former Glasswork house, as it functions as outdoor amphitheatre. The main competition task regarding open public space was to design flexible and functional space, that can host different events and to emphasise historical and cultural background of the quarter. In order to persist functional flexibility of the square we proposed the concept of movable and modular urban furniture. The shape of the furniture creates visual contrast to the simple pavement pattern. The eastern funnel-shaped continuation of the square functions as a small, green meeting point with shallow water feature. The competition proposal suggests new green interventions to the square in form of climbing plants as a reminiscence to former green historical character of the town. The atrium is functionally connected to the new cultural program of former Glasswork house, as it functions as outdoor amphitheatre. The atrium is also envisioned as a green square, since the existing, historical part of the town generally lack green areas. |
